The Elemi Story
While working in the retail aromatherapy industry, Elemi Owner/Founder Ginny van Veghel became aware of the ‘perception of natural’ permeating the natural product marketplace. At a time when aromatherapy was beginning to attract widespread attention and a trend toward healthier living was gaining momentum, many companies began offering so-called ‘aromatherapy’ products which encouraged the assumption that they were pure and natural, when in fact they were often anything but. Upon further investigation, Ginny found that many companies offered products that were reasonably-priced but not natural, or products that were indeed natural but not at all reasonably-priced. She found it very difficult to source products that addressed both purity and affordability…thus, she had uncovered a niche! Ginny truly believed that there was a way to produce 100% pure, natural aromatherapy products containing the finest ingredients at affordable prices.
In 2004, Ginny decided to take her vision from concept to concrete. She began by researching packaging and ingredients in line with her ideals and then dove into the creative process, producing a variety of unique blends and products. With two years of diligent sourcing, creating and testing behind her, it was finally time to sell! The first products Ginny launched were the Happy and BE lines, available in synergies and roll-ons. She began by supplying a local Squamish store and selling her wares at farmer’s markets, locally as well as in West and North Vancouver. The response to her offering was phenomenal, and soon Ginny was adding to her line. By 2007, within just a year of its official debut, Elemi’s growth was ballooning at a rapid pace, and Ginny went from supplying just one store to more than forty, all the way from BC to Manitoba!
Elemi’s success to date has been remarkable, and the demand for naturally-made aromatherapy products that support the health of both the earth and its inhabitants is encouraging and rewarding.
But the Elemi story is one that is far from finished. It continues to be written each day!
Owner/Founder Ginny van Veghel embarked upon her fragrant path in 1996 when she signed on with a large, BC-owned retail aromatherapy company. Here she acted as manager of a retail location in Whistler until 1999 and then again in 2002. While employed in Whistler she discovered the healing benefits of essential oils and in time, realized that she had unearthed a passion. Ginny graduated from the Institute of Aromatherapy in Toronto ON as a Registered Aromatherapy Health Practitioner (RAHP) in 2002. After graduation, and while conducting the research that would eventually become Elemi, she signed on as an Instructor at a Vancouver massage and bodywork school, sharing her passion for aromatherapy with others.
As an experienced RAHP, Aroma-Cosmetologist and Educator, Ginny is a natural leader and continues to inspire and to be inspired by aromatherapy on a daily basis. Today, Elemi is Ginny’s number-one inspiration and sole focus; that is, aside from her family with whom she lives happily in Uxbridge ON!
